Learn to knit with two colors at once in our Intro to Colorwork class. This short class just covers the very basics, which is all you need to make an adorable polka dot hat!

Note: this class has homework to be completed before the class starts! See below for instructions.

You will learn how to: hold and knit two colors of yarn at once, and adjust your tension if necessary.

You must already know how to: cast on, knit, purl, work in a rib pattern, change colors, and decrease for a hat using double points or the magic loop technique.

If you do not know some of the techniques needed, we can teach you anything you need to know in our weekly workshop on Thursdays from 5–7 pm.

Required materials: 150-200 yards of worsted weight yarn (50-100 yards for main color, 50 yards for brim color, 50 yards for polka dot color), US 7 (4.5 mm) 16" circulars, and double points or long circulars for magic loop, and 5 stitch markers (one unique for beginning of round). We used The Dye Project's Ecola Worsted Mini Skeins in "Dragon Breath," "Hanami," and "Eggshell."

Homework: Come into the shop to get your yarn and the pattern and we'll tell you what your homework is! It varies based on the size and version of the hat you're making. The homework is to knit the whole brim (18–30 rounds of 76–120 sts, depending on the size) so you should leave yourself a day or two to complete it.

Please purchase your supplies at Cast Away. If you plan on buying your materials the day of the class, please come at least 15 minutes early.
