Our Learn to Knit a Hat class will teach you everything you need to know to make a classic knitted beanie, plus a few more useful tips to make each hat extra special! This fall we're teaching our seed stitch gradient hat pattern, but you're welcome to make one of several different hat styles in the class!
You will learn how to: read a pattern, join to work in the round, change colors, decrease, and use the magic loop technique. You should already know how to: cast on, knit, purl, and work in a rib or seed stitch pattern. Required materials (choose one):
For the seed stitch gradient hat (pictured): 1 gradient hat kit (available for purchase in store), or 320 yards of a fingering weight yarn (held double), US 8 16" and 32" circulars, 4 stitch markers (one unique for beginning of round), and a darning needle. We used Woolfolk Tynd & Sno.
For a bulky hat: 110 yards of a bulky weight yarn, US 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16" and 32" circular needles, 1 stitch marker, and a darning needle. We recommend using The Fibre Co. Tundra.
For a worsted hat: 150 yards of aran or worsted weight wool or alpaca yarn, US 8 16" and 32" circular needles, 1 stitch marker, and a darning needle. We recommend using Manos Del Uruguay Gloria. Recommended materials: pom pom maker.
Please purchase your supplies at Cast Away. If you plan on buying your materials the day of the class, please come at least 15 minutes early.
Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel or reschedule your session we require at least 24 hours notice to give you store credit or a refund. We can not give you a refund or credit with less than 24 hours notice.
