Learn to Knit & Felt a Bag

Make one of these bags, and you'll have to make three more. We swear, they're addictive! And deceptively simple and quick.

This class has homework to be completed before the first class! See below for more info.

You must already know how to: cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. If you do not know any of these techniques, we can teach you how to do any of them in our Thursday Evening Workshop.

You will learn how to: pick up stitches, change colors, make jogless stripes, bind off in the middle of a row, cable cast on, and felt your bag in a washing machine.

Required materials (choose one):

For the gradient version (pictured): 7 skeins of Cascade 220 (two each in three base colors, one in handle color), US 11 / 8 mm 32–40" circulars, one stitch marker.

For the striped version (not pictured): 6 skeins of Cascade 220 (three each of two colors) US 11 / 8 mm 32–40" circulars, one stitch marker.

For this class, you MUST purchase your supplies at Cast Away.

Homework:

  1. In the color you want the bottom of your bag to be, hold two strands together and cast on 25 stitches.
  2. Knit 82 rows (41 garter ridges on each side).
  3. Do not bind off!
